Privacy Policy — Discover Rwanda
Last updated: 4 August 2026
Discover Rwanda ("we", "our", "the app") is a travel-guide application for exploring
Rwanda. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
By using the app you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive your
name, email address and profile photo to create and manage your account.
- Your in-app content. Places and articles you save (favourites and
bookmarks) and any comments or reviews you post.
- Photos you choose to identify. When you use the “Snap to Identify”
feature and select or capture a photo, that image is sent to our AI service to return
an identification. We do not store these photos after processing.
- Questions you ask the AI. Text you type into the AI assistant, trip
planner or smart search is sent to our AI service to generate a response.
- Device & usage data. Basic analytics and diagnostics (for example
app opens, screens viewed, crash data) and a push-notification token if you enable
notifications.
How we use your information
- To provide core features — showing destinations, saving favourites, answering your
travel questions, planning trips and identifying photos.
- To sign you in and keep your saved content across sessions.
- To send notifications you have opted in to.
- To understand usage and improve the app, and to fix crashes.
Service providers
We use trusted third parties to run the app. Your data may be processed by:
- Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, analytics,
cloud messaging) — see Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Maps Platform — for maps and nearby-place features.
- Anthropic — processes AI requests (your questions and any photo you
choose to identify) to generate responses. It is not used to identify you.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your account information and saved content while your account is active. You can
delete your account from within the app, which removes your profile and associated data.
You may also request deletion by emailing us (below). Photos sent for identification are not
retained after the result is returned.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored using our
providers’ security controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we
take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will
delete it.
Your choices
- Sign out at any time; browse as a guest without an account.
- Turn notifications on or off in the app or your device settings.
- Request access to or deletion of your data via the contact email below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a
new “last updated” date.
